Guide to QuillBot: How to Use QuillBot's Plagiarism Checker and Other Features

Writing is not the same as it used to be. In the past, it was simple. You got a piece of paper, and you wrote. But those days are long gone.

Today, everything is digital. It’s gone even further than just typing with your keyboard. Now, you have to use all kinds of tools, constantly reference articles, keep up with trends, and most importantly, ensure you avoid plagiarism.

QuillBot AI is software that solves all these problems! That’s why I made this guide to QuillBot! So, let’s jump right in!

What is QuillBot?

QuillBot was founded in 2017. It's groundbreaking because it can rewrite or paraphrase content word for word while preserving its meaning. In the past, QuillBot was only used to edit or rephrase text. But it's turned into a lot more. Now, you can do a lot of different things with QuillBot. We'll talk about those later in the piece. But I can say that it has become a one-stop shop where content writers can perform all the checks necessary to prove their content is of high quality.

So, let’s not waste any more time and get into exactly what QuillBot can do!

How to Use QuillBot: Getting Started

First, you need to go to  quillbot.com . Once you open the QuillBot website, you can see this Home Page:



A rewriting tool, grammar checker, plagiarism detector, AI analyst, summarizer, and many more useful tools are included in QuillBot.

QuillBot is also available as a Chrome extension. However, its browser extension capabilities don’t end at Chrome. If you scroll just a little bit further down on the Home Page, you can see that QuillBot is also available as an Edge extension and a Word add-in.

You can also see that there is a QuillBot App that users can download.



Let’s focus on using the QuillBot website first. You have to sign up before you can do anything else. Select "Log in" or "Sign Up" from the menu that you can see when you click on your profile picture.



Next, you can log in or choose "Don't have an account?" if you'd rather not continue with Google, Facebook, or Apple.



You may build your profile on the Register page, which will be forwarded to you when you choose that option.

Once you do that, it’s time to personalize our profile by answering a few questions.



The results can look something like this, and after you’re done, you can choose “Next.” Now that you have created our account, the fun can begin. In the next sections, you’ll see how to use QuillBot’s key tools and features.

Using the Paraphrasing Tool

Let’s begin with the Paraphraser by choosing “Paraphraser” on the Home Page.



You’ll be redirected to the following screen.



Some of the most distinguishing characteristics of QuillBot are shown below. QuillBot's paraphrasing capabilities are evident in a number of languages. These include English, French, Spanish, and German.

It becomes much longer when you choose "All" to see every language option.



For this example, let’s stick to English.

Let’s say you want to improve the readability of a text about the history of quills that you found on Wikipedia. You would have to choose English and then "Fluency" mode, and the result would look something like this.



Paraphrasing Modes

QuillBot allows you to compare different paraphrases and choose the one that best fits your writing style. This feature ensures that your writing retains a personal touch, even when using AI assistance.

Enhancing Writing with the Grammar Checker

Not all instances call for a paraphrase; occasionally, proofreading for grammatical errors is all that's needed. Here comes the Grammar Checker tool.



Just like with the Paraphrasing Tool, you can see that the Grammar Checker is also available in multiple languages, and when you select “All”, you can see all of those languages.



Continuing from the last example, let us also limit ourselves to English for this one. Despite our text having a low score of 61 out of 100 and several grammatical errors, you can use QuillBot to correct them before turning in our work for grading.



How to Use QuillBot's AI Detector

That’s right, QuillBot has an AI detector. You can access it by clicking on the following button on your QuillBot dashboard.



After clicking the AI Detector button, you will be greeted with a screen where you can paste the text you want to check. For now, it’s limited to 1200 words.



For example, I’ve pasted some AI text to see if QuillBot AI detected it. And what do you know, it did!



After paraphrasing the content and pasting it again, QuillBot managed to detect that half was AI + paraphrase and half was human. So, the accuracy might not be that great.



Plagiarism Checker

This guide to QuillBot wouldn’t be complete if we didn’t cover the QuillBot plagiarism checker.



QuillBot’s plagiarism checker is an indispensable tool for ensuring the originality of your content. It scans documents for any text that matches existing sources on the internet, helping you avoid accidental plagiarism. This feature is crucial for students, writers, and professionals who need to maintain high standards of integrity in their work.

This feature is only available for QuillBot premium users, and here is how it looks:



After clicking on ‘Scan,’ QuillBot gets to work and first calculates how many of your 100 Pages available it would take to complete the search. After you select OK, in my case, it was only 1 Page, you can view the results in your scan history.



And after you click on the scan. You get a detailed view of the scan.



The scan has many components that can be useful, however, there are likely cheaper options.

QuillBot Summarizer Guide

Did you know that the initial way many LLMs were trained was by having them summarize content/create conclusions? Well, now you do.



With this in mind, it makes sense that QuillBot would have a summarizer, but is it any good? Take a look:



As an example, let’s summarize a Wikipedia article on bananas. And it did a pretty good job cramming almost 900 words into 133 words.



Guide to Citation Generator by QuillBot

Citations are the heart of QuillBot. In fact, they are what make using QuillBot legal.



You can paraphrase and reuse any original content as long as you cite it, so it makes sense for there to be a citation generator.



By entering the URL of the Wikipedia page for bananas, I got the following citation:

This is a pretty neat tool if you need it. Additionally, as you can see, there is a folder with all the citations, and you can even keep a list.
