Amazon’s Alexa gets new generative AI-powered experiences

At CES this week, tech companies like Volkswagen, Nvidia, and Amazon put a spotlight on generative AI.

Amazon announced new tools in September 2023 for developers to create LLM-powered experiences. Today, three developers launched AI-powered Alexa experiences: Character.AI, Splash, and Volley.

Character.AI's experience allows Alexa users to chat with different personas like Librarian Linda, a personal trainer, or historical figures like Socrates.

Splash offers a free Alexa Skill where users can make songs using their voice, selecting genres and adding lyrics to rap or sing along.

Volley introduced a generative AI-powered "20 Questions" game, engaging users with questions and hints.

Amazon has been enhancing Alexa with AI, giving it a more opinionated personality and emotions like excitement or surprise. They also launched "Explore with Alexa" for kids.

At CES, Amazon announced Fire TV on Panasonic's new smart TVs, Matter Casting support, the latest Zoox robotaxi, and more.
