Lightricks, renowned for consumer-centric apps like Facetune and Videoleap, has introduced a groundbreaking AI-powered filmmaking tool named LTX Studio. The platform caters to creators by simplifying the filmmaking process, aiding them from the ideation phase to the creation of AI-powered short clips. Currently open for users to join a waitlist, LTX Studio, a web-based tool, plans to be accessible to the public next month without any associated charges.

The functionality of LTX Studio revolves around a user-friendly approach. Creators can input their ideas, prompting the platform to generate scripts, storyboards, and characters based on the provided prompts. The generated storyboard breaks down various scenes into shots, each customizable by the user. Modifications can include changes in style (such as anime or cinematic effects), weather settings, and location alterations. Each shot, typically a few seconds long, offers customization options like camera angles, motion scale, special effects, and character dialogues.

A distinctive feature is the shot editor, allowing users to rename shots and adjust frame settings, motion scale, camera motion, duration, and sound. The platform facilitates further customization by enabling users to add, remove, or modify characters for the entire concept through a dedicated characters tab. Additionally, importing an image with a visible face allows users to create characters for the storyline.

Lightricks believes that LTX Studio caters to professionals in the filmmaking industry, aiding in quick conceptualization of stories and assisting filmmakers in evaluating different shooting options without substantial financial investments. Rodrigo Liang, Co-founder and CEO of Lightricks, expressed that LTX Studio provides every enterprise with its own custom GPT model, privatized on their data and customized for their organizational needs.

The tool employs a multi-model strategy, allowing users to have control over prompts and reducing the cost of fine-tuning on their data. This approach theoretically enhances reliability by comparing responses from different models, mitigating issues like hallucination-driven responses. LTX Studio offers flexibility by being deployable on-premises or in a hosted environment based on customer needs.

Lightricks recognized the potential of AI in 2022, leading to the conceptualization of new-gen products. While incorporating AI-powered features into existing products, such as Facetune and Videoleap, the company also sought to develop a new product, resulting in the creation of LTX Studio. The platform utilizes various AI models, including the company's text-to-video model, during different stages of the creation process.

The company emphasizes its commitment to responsible AI use, utilizing third-party asset providers for background music due to AI's perceived limitations in producing high-quality background music. Lightricks is strategically consolidating its products, focusing on hit products like Facetune, Photoleap, and Videoleap, while venturing into professional-oriented tools like LTX Studio.

We realized that there is going to be this paradigm shift with AI for all the tool makers. And we needed to figure out what our next-generation products would look like. While we had a bunch of popular products, we wanted to develop something from scratch

Despite challenges, such as laying off 12% of its staff in 2022, Lightricks aims to evolve from being a consumer-only startup. With a workforce of 550 people, the company envisions a trajectory that combines AI innovation for both consumers and professionals. Following its $130 million Series D funding in 2021, led by Insight Partners, Lightricks is poised to redefine its narrative, centering around AI development for a broader market, signaling potential future rounds or a public offering.

Be it raising another round or going public, the story is going to build around AI not only for consumers but for professionals as well. For that, we need to launch our tools, show some traction, and then we are going to reach out to the market
