In Brief

OpenAI's ChatGPT website experienced a 10 percent decline in global traffic between May and June, its first decrease since launch.

Initially lauded for its rapid growth, ChatGPT boasted 100 million monthly active users by January 2023, offering free text generation services.

Recent data from Similarweb indicates a decline in interest and engagement with ChatGPT, prompting concerns about its long-term viability.

This decrease in website visits correlates with reduced engagement and time spent on the platform, raising questions about its sustainability.

Meanwhile, other AI models such as Microsoft's Bing AI and Character.AI are gaining popularity, suggesting a shift in user preferences.

Now that you've all tried it ... ChatGPT web traffic falls 10%

Global traffic to OpenAI's ChatGPT website declined by an estimated 10 percent between May and June, marking its first drop in visitors since its launch in November.

Initially praised as the fastest-growing web app globally, ChatGPT attracted 100 million monthly active users by January 2023, offering free and accessible text generation capabilities.

While ChatGPT sparked excitement and inspired various applications, recent data from Similarweb suggests a waning interest, with global traffic and engagement decreasing.

The decline in website visits is mirrored by a drop in engagement and time spent on the platform, raising questions about the sustainability of its initial popularity.

As interest in ChatGPT diminishes, other AI models like Microsoft's Bing AI and Character.AI are gaining traction, indicating a potential shift in user preferences and needs.

ChatGPT no longer looks like it will keep growing until it's the most-trafficked website in the world. In other words, Google is in no danger of being eclipsed by the OpenAI tech demo site that turned into a cultural phenomenon.
