Guide to Meta AI: How to Use Meta AI to Its Full Potential

These days, AI is all the rage. Every major tech giant has set a foot in the door and attempted to create its own AI. With ChatGPT being so successful, many companies try to replicate and add to it. One example is Meta’s new AI chatbot, Meta AI.

Using Meta AI can be a bit confusing, and users often run into issues. But don’t worry. In this guide to Meta AI, I’ll show you how to use Meta AI to help you with everyday tasks or more complex projects.

What is Meta AI?

To put it simply, Meta AI is Meta’s answer to the AI craze. Meta AI wasn’t always named like that. In fact, in 2013, it was known as Facebook AI Research (FAIR). Moreover, it was founded by Mark Zuckerberg and Yann LeCun. Their model is the real deal. Meta AI took ten years to develop, and the amount of research involved is impressive.

The model is integrated with almost all of Meta’s platforms, making it one of the most accessible Artificial Intelligence tools online. Meta AI also includes the Meta LLaMA models, which are designed to enhance generative AI features.

Meta AI includes a variety of generative AI features that allow users to create stunning visuals and text. These features enhance the creative process by providing tools to generate images, animations, and text based on user prompts.

How to Use Meta AI

Getting Started with Meta AI

To get started with Meta AI, you first need to open your browser and go to meta.ai.

Disclaimer: Meta AI is currently only available in Australia, Canada, Ghana, Jamaica, Malawi, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, Uganda, the U.S., Zambia, and Zimbabwe. European users will need to wait for availability or use a VPN.

Next, if you want to start using the AI, you need to log in through Facebook. Logging in ensures that any conversations you’ve had will remain on your profile for future use.

Plus, as of now, you can’t send any prompts without being logged in! I assume that you already have a Facebook account since Facebook has 3.3 billion monthly users. In case you don’t, you’ll need to create one.

Now that you have an account, you can use Meta AI for free.

Initial Dashboard

After successfully logging in with your account, your dashboard should look something like this. There are multiple elements in this dashboard that you should know about, so let’s take a look.

New Conversation

The first tab I’ll show you is the ‘New Conversation’ tab. Here, you can enter any question or request you may have, and Meta AI will answer it promptly. If you’re testing out what the model can do, there are suggestions just above the text box on the button.

This includes but isn’t limited to the following:

  • Help with coursework
  • Write a professional email to your boss
  • Teach you how to bake a cake
  • Debug your code

Below is an example of how it helped me make an omelet.

Making an omlette

It gave me the needed ingredients, instructions, and a few tips to make it extra tasty. I created a complete instruction manual in seconds with just a simple prompt. If you're happy with your result, you can like it, which tells the model to respond similarly. You can also dislike it, which suggests it should give you a different response the second time you ask it.

Imagine

The large language model can create high-quality images, like a generative AI model.

Imagine

While writing the prompt, feel free to be as descriptive as you want, as the model can alter the quality of the image based entirely on your prompt. Start your prompt with the keyword ‘Imagine,’ which will generate your image live. This means the image will change in real time depending on your prompt.

Here’s an example of a live image of a pizza with specific toppings added to it.

When your prompt is finished (when you click Enter), it will generate three more images similar to the first.

Furthermore, the ‘Animate’ feature can make any image generated to be animated. It’s nothing fancy, but it's a feature that most generative AI models don’t include.

History

A history section of all your chats is a game-changer, allowing you to reread or edit past chats with the model.

A few examples where this can prove helpful are for programmers looking for old fixes or chefs needing to look up some recipes.

Meta AI takes it further by integrating chat and image generation history, creating a seamless experience. If you don't want a history of your previous chats, you can permanently delete a specific chat and forget it ever existed.

The image below shows all of my chats with the model. I can delete or rename a conversation by hovering over the desired chat and clicking the three dots at the end.

Tips and Tricks

As you can see, using Meta AI is not that difficult. If you’ve worked with GPT 4.0, the interface is similar. However, a similar interface doesn’t mean they are on the same platform. That’s why, in this section, I’ll tell you my top tips for anyone who’s looking into using Meta AI.

Be Descriptive

Making a prompt short and simple is one way of getting some information quickly, but 99% of the time, expanding your prompt will give you better results. Be sure to experiment with different keywords and phrases to alter the outcome of the prompt. Moreover, in image generation, always provide as many details as possible so the Artificial Intelligence can briefly describe the photo you want to create. When you’re happy with the response, be sure to like it so the model can learn from it and dislike the ones you aren’t satisfied with. This will help the model improve and fit your needs better for future use.

Ask Follow-up Questions

Most of the time, if you don’t get the response you want, it’s because the prompt you have is too vague. AI chatbots aren't perfect, and they will make mistakes because they are still being developed. Furthermore, whenever Meta AI makes a mistake, always correct it. This way, the model will fit your exact needs over time.

Research How AI Works

Although not necessary, having some basic knowledge of how AI works can significantly improve your experience using them. Actually, it's a lot like driving a car. You don't really need to know how a car works to drive it, but it's more fun if you do. The same goes for AI. You don’t need to be a software developer or AI Specialist to understand the basic concepts of artificial intelligence, but knowing some basics can help you be more productive. Researching the internet, reading articles and forums, or even asking the AI model to explain it briefly are all things which you can do.

Meta AI Features and Generative AI Capabilities

Meta AI includes a range of generative AI features designed to enhance user experience and creativity. These features allow users to generate images, create text, and even animate visuals based on their prompts. The advanced capabilities of Meta AI, including Meta LLaMA models, provide users with powerful tools to bring their ideas to life.

Data Protection and Privacy

Meta AI is designed with data protection in mind. Meta's privacy policy ensures that user data is handled with care and in compliance with legal standards. The platform provides users with control over their data, including the ability to delete conversations and manage privacy settings.

Using Meta AI on Facebook and Other Platforms

Meta AI will be integrated across various Meta platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. This integration allows users to access AI features directly from these platforms, enhancing their experience. For example, on Facebook, users can interact with Meta AI through the Messenger app by tagging ‘@MetaAi.’ This feature will be also available on Instagram and WhatsApp, providing seamless access to AI-powered assistance.

Public and Private Information

Meta AI uses public information to improve its responses and provide accurate answers. It is also designed to handle private messages and sensitive data responsibly. Users can rely on Meta AI to maintain confidentiality while offering personalized assistance.

I hope my guide to Meta AI helped you learn the basics of this platform. The wonders of AI are becoming apparent as more people use it, and knowing how to use it properly can be a helpful skill anyone can master. Meta AI can be used for all kinds of things. However, learning to use these models and widening your skills can only benefit you in the long run.

Frequently Asked Questions

Meta AI can do whatever you need, as it is trained to give quick and accurate answers to all your prompts. With deep learning tactics, it is extensively trained and researched to help anyone with any query. Furthermore, Meta AI can be used to create images in real time. We talked about this in the article. But in case you missed it, you can see what Meta AI thinks and change your prompt accordingly. Any changes you make will be reflected in the result image. The only downside is that it is only available in some countries like New Zealand or South Africa, while others have to wait for or use a VPN.

WhatsApp is a social media app acquired by Meta, so it’s no surprise that its AI chatbot will be on it. The large language model is used for various purposes, such as smart replies, autocorrect assistance, fully automated customer support, and more ecxiting features are to come.

To talk with the AI chatbot, you’ll need to open Messenger on any device and start a chat using the tag ‘@MetaAi.’ From there, you can use it to ask specific questions, receive assistance for Meta apps, and anything else you can think of. The same method will be applied to other social media platforms in the future that are under Meta.

Both AI chatbots excel in different things, and the choice comes down to each individual. Having this in mind, it’s always good to do your research and test the models out for yourself to determine which is best fit for you.

Yes, Meta AI is safe to use. The platform adheres to industry standards and regulations, making it a reliable choice for creating and managing AI-generated content. Furthermore, all public-generated images will be featured in the community feed, but you have the choice to change the visibility of your images.
