In Brief

In 2021, Oleg Klimov, Vlad Guber, and Oleg Kiyashko founded Refact.ai to improve AI-driven coding for enterprises.

Refact.ai aims to offer more customization and control over AI-driven coding, addressing concerns about privacy and security risks.

Unlike competitors such as GitHub Copilot, Refact.ai operates on-premise, providing natural language support and code suggestions without internet connectivity.

The platform uses compact, code-generating models trained on permissively licensed code to mitigate intellectual property challenges.

Refact.ai has secured $2 million in funding, attracted 20 pilot projects with enterprise clients, and projects annual revenue of "a few million" by summer, focusing on enhancing its platform with autonomous code execution and self-testing capabilities.

In 2021, Oleg Klimov, Vlad Guber, and Oleg Kiyashko collaborated to create Refact.ai, aiming to make AI-driven coding more customizable and controllable for enterprises.

Klimov, sharing his background, stated, "As software engineers at heart, we decided we need to be in the best position to live through it — creating an independent system for software engineering."

While 82% of developers acknowledge AI's impact on coding, 85% of enterprise professionals express concerns about privacy and security risks associated with AI tools.

Refact operates on-premise, distinguishing itself from competitors like GitHub Copilot, providing natural language support and code suggestions without needing an internet connection or uploading data.

We used permissive licence code to train [our models] because our customers demanded it

Refact's privacy-conscious approach attracted $2 million in funding and secured around 20 pilot projects with enterprise clients, projecting annual revenue of "a few million" by summer.

Despite challenges faced by other vendors like GitHub, Refact aims to enhance its platform with autonomous code execution, multi-step plans, and self-testing capabilities, driven by a talented team focused on innovation and impact.

We’re actively working on a next-generation AI assistant – one that’ll debug the code it writes and operate on any large codebase. We’re well-funded internally and have the necessary capital to continue building the product … We’ve never benefited from an abundance of funding or from the venture capital frenzy that took place in previous years, but what’s really benefited us is the availability and eagerness of very talented people who are looking to join the AI revolution — and who saw in Refact as a place to thrive and develop something that can have a lasting impact.
