Even though Bing AI is based on OpenAI’s GPT-4, it’s said to be using a better and improved version, and currently, it’s the only way to get access to GPT-4 for free.

However, as with any new technology, Microsoft is highly motivated to add useful features and capabilities to ensure that Bing AI is the next big thing.

This has led to some users being confused about how to use Bing AI Chat.

But don’t worry—this simple guide is the perfect place to learn how to maximize this amazing AI tool and use it to its full potential.

How to Use Bing AI Chat

Now that you know what Bing AI is and how it came to be, let’s get started and show you how to use it!

1. Getting Started

The first thing you need to do is launch Microsoft Bing and type in bing.com. Once you’re there, click on "Sign in".

Sing in

After this, a window will pop up, asking you what kind of account you’ll be using to sign in. Choose to sign in with a personal account.

personal account

You should be redirected to a page where you can create an account if you don’t have one or log in if you do.

Once you’re there and you’ve logged in to your Microsoft account, there are two ways to access Bing AI Chat. You can click on the Copilot button located in the navigation bar or the Copilot icon at the top-right of your screen.

copilot

The Copilot Button in the nav bar redirects you to the Microsoft Copilot AI Chat, and the top-left button opens an Edge sidebar window and starts a conversation.

However, to get the whole experience, we recommend clicking on the Copilot Bing Chat button, which redirects you to the official chat.

2. Starting Your First Chat

Now that you have access to Bing Chat’s full potential, it’s time to start talking to the Bing AI chatbot. You can ask it anything you need. That's what I asked:

Copilot answer

As you can see, when you enter a prompt, the AI tool takes in the information and generates a relevant response. The information is simple, useful, and formatted very well.

Moreover, when you hover over your prompt, you get three additional buttons (see the image above). The first copy button copies a transcript of the prompt you sent along with the chat title.

The second pencil icon can be used to edit your prompt and resend it, and the third redirect you to the Bing Search Engine results related to your prompt:

3. Additional Functionalities

Despite the very well-generated answer, I’ve highlighted some of the most impressive aspects of Bing Chat’s response. Let’s take a look:

Copilot chat

First, we have the Learn More section, where Bing gives you references to helpful blogs and articles relevant to your prompt. Moreover, there are predictive suggestions related to your previous prompt, so if you’re looking for something similar, you don’t have to type it out.

4. After You’ve Got a Response

This wouldn’t be a true "how to use Bing AI" guide if we didn’t show you everything this AI tool offers after a single prompt.

Another exciting feature is the Search feature on the left. Bing AI allows you to go to the Bing Search Engine directly and browse the net for things relevant to your prompt.

Moreover, on the right, you can see all the specialized GPTs that you can use on Bing Chat.

You can also notice a Plugins section (to the right of Chats) where you can add different plugins to improve and further customize your experience.

That sums up the basic functionalities offered by Bing AI Chat. In the following section, we have some tips and interesting features that Bing has integrated into its Copilot system.

Additional Tips and Bing AI Copilot Features

Now that you’re familiar with the basics of Bing AI let’s explore some more advanced topics and features.

Using Bing Image Creator

That’s right! The new Bing AI comes with an image generator. By using DALL·E 3, Bing AI can create any images relevant to your prompt. Let’s see how it works.

You can either enter a prompt at the regular Bing AI Chat or visit the Copilot Designer official website. Using the official website is better, and here’s why.

Design

The Bing Image Creator uses boosts to ensure your images are generated faster. Each prompt requires 1 boost token, and you get four variations of the image per response to choose from. After you’ve run out of boosts, the creator will still work; however, it will be much slower.

Deep Search

When using the Microsoft Edge browser, you can quickly refer back to Copilot/Bing AI Chat (the Copilot icon on the left) or do a deep search of the web (on the right).

deep search

If you choose Deep Search, you get more in-depth results related to the message in your search box.

deep search

You can choose what kind of explanation you prefer (the right red box). In our context, we can choose whether it’s Mathematical, Educational, or something more interactive and meant for learning! You can start to imagine the limitless possibilities and applications of this feature.

Image Analysis

Bing AI is not just useful for generating natural language. The AI chatbot by Bing features an option to attach images to be analyzed by the software.

The best way to demonstrate this is to use an example. First, we select an image to attach by clicking on the Add an Image button and telling Copilot what we want to do in a few words.

Image Analysis

After sending the prompt, Bing AI analyzes the image and generates information. Here is what Bing AI saw in this image of an iPhone:

iPhone image analysis

Bing AI did an amazing job analyzing the image, with the only potential missed detail being what model of iPhone this was. For those who are unsure, it’s an iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.
