Shopify's Winter Edition rollout includes new features like an AI-powered media editor, semantic search improvements, and better product variant displays for merchants.

The Magic Media Editor allows merchants to change backgrounds and scenes in product images using generative AI, with options for seven styles or custom prompts.

Semantic search enhancements enable customers to find products beyond simple keyword matches, such as searching for "warm clothes for winter" to find thermal wear options.

Merchants can now showcase up to 2,000 product variants and use a new app for managing combined listings, tailored for Shopify Plus customers.

Shopify is also launching headless storefronts for B2B merchants, providing custom front-end solutions while accessing Shopify's back end through APIs. Despite past layoffs and selling its logistics business, Shopify reported significant revenue growth in Q3 2023.

Shopify is introducing new features as part of its Winter Edition rollout, including an AI-powered media editor for enhancing product images, semantic search improvements, and better ways for merchants to display product variants.

The AI-powered Magic Media Editor lets merchants change backgrounds and scenes in product images using generative AI. They can choose from seven styles or type a prompt for a new background. Merchants can also match background styles to maintain brand consistency and remove unwanted backgrounds.

Previously, Shopify introduced AI-based tools like the Sidekick bot to help merchants navigate the platform.

The platform now offers semantic search, allowing customers to find products beyond simple keyword matches. For instance, a query like "warm clothes for winter" yields various thermal wear options.

Shopify is also enhancing merchandising tools, enabling merchants to showcase different product variants. The product creation and classification tool now supports up to 2,000 variants, with a new app for managing combined listings available for Shopify Plus customers.

Merchants can tailor product listings with parameters like colors, materials, and activities to target specific audiences.

Additionally, Shopify is launching headless storefronts for B2B merchants, allowing custom front-end solutions while accessing Shopify's back end through APIs.

Despite laying off 20% of its staff in June 2023 and selling its logistics business, Shopify reported $1.7 billion in revenue with a 25% year-on-year growth for Q3 2023.
