In Brief

Recraft secures $12 million Series A funding led by Khosla Ventures and Nat Friedman, aiming to transform AI tools for creators.

Unlike other AI design platforms, Recraft targets professionals, offering a foundational model for consistent design elements aligned with brand style controls.

Since its launch eight months ago, Recraft has gained over 300,000 users, prioritizing vector images suitable for professional graphic design.

Founder Anna Veronika Dorogush emphasizes Recraft's focus on user control over image outputs and style consistency, avoiding legal issues with artists' style references.

Recraft aims to democratize graphic design by making it more accessible and inspiring, focusing on style-consistent imagery for graphic designers and marketers, recognized by investors like Khosla Ventures for its potential to avoid controversies associated with other AI imaging platforms.

Controversy swirls around AI-generated images, but startups like Recraft aim to revolutionize AI tools for creators. With a recent $12 million Series A funding led by Khosla Ventures and Nat Friedman, Recraft promises a unique approach to graphic design generation.

Unlike other AI design tools, Recraft focuses on professionals, offering a foundational model for consistent design elements that align with a brand's style controls. Since its launch eight months ago, Recraft has amassed over 300,000 users, prioritizing vector images suitable for professional graphic design.

Founder Anna Veronika Dorogush, previously involved in creating CatBoost, emphasizes Recraft's commitment to providing users with control over image outputs and style consistency. While other platforms may face legal issues with artists, Recraft ensures it doesn't use artists' style references to train its model.

A year ago, if you were writing a children’s book, you got stock imagery. Now, the same people are able to have much more beautiful illustration and imagery in the same books.

Rather than displacing graphic designers, Recraft aims to democratize graphic design, making it more accessible and inspiring for various industries. Despite competition from other startups like Kittl, Recraft's unique technology focuses on style-consistent imagery for graphic designers and marketers.

I think if Recraft are able to produce design assets successfully — similar to how image generation models can be a good replacement nowadays for stock photo libraries — then they definitely may take [some market] share of those icon libraries.

Investors, including Khosla Ventures, recognize the potential of AI tools like Recraft to avoid controversies associated with other AI imaging platforms. Nikita Shamgunov of Khosla Ventures notes Recraft's professional workflows and end-to-end content production capabilities, powered by its in-house foundation models.

We are seeing rapid and significant transformation of the design space driven by generative AI. But to date, many of the generative AI design solutions have been targeting consumers, rather than professionals that require high degrees of control. Recraft delivers on professional workflows such as vector images, style controls and end-to-end content production, all powered by in-house built foundation models.
