In Brief

Shortwave, an email client developed by former Google engineers, introduces new AI-powered tools.

The new features include instant summaries, writing assistance, and an extended AI assistant for iOS and Android.

Instant summaries automatically display the essence of an email or thread in one sentence.

Shortwave uses its GPUs and open-source models for longer summaries, with GPT-4 Turbo generating detailed summaries.

AI assistant, available since September 2023, is now accessible on mobile devices, aiding users with drafting emails and web searches.

AI multiselect enables users to select multiple threads for assistance, while AI autocomplete suggests longer sentences, enhancing email composition.

These features roll out this week, with instant summaries, AI multiselect, and mobile assistant available to all users, while AI autocomplete is exclusive to Pro and Business plan subscribers.

Shortwave updates its pricing, offering personal, Pro, and business plans priced at $7, $24, and $24 per month, respectively.

Despite competition from Outlook, Gmail, Superhuman, and Boomerang, Shortwave aims to streamline email writing and management with its AI-powered features.

Shortwave, an email client developed by former Google engineers, is introducing new AI-powered tools to enhance user experience, including instant summaries, writing assistance, and extending its AI assistant to iOS and Android platforms, along with multi-select AI actions.

Previously, Shortwave offered AI-powered summaries, but users had to manually generate them by tapping a button. Now, the new instant summary feature automatically displays the essence of an email or thread in a single sentence, allowing for quicker email processing.

For longer summaries, Shortwave utilizes its own GPUs and open-source models to minimize costs, while GPT-4 Turbo generates more detailed summaries.

The AI assistant, initially launched in September 2023, is now available on mobile devices, assisting users with drafting emails, web searches, and answering thread-related queries, though it's a paid feature.

Shortwave also introduces an AI multiselect option, enabling users to select multiple threads and seek assistance from the assistant regarding those threads, facilitating efficient email management.

Additionally, Shortwave introduces an AI-powered autocomplete feature, akin to GitHub Copilot for emails, which learns users' writing styles to suggest longer sentences, streamlining email composition.

These features are rolling out to users this week, with instant summaries, AI multiselect, and mobile assistant available for all users, while AI autocomplete is exclusive to Pro and Business plan subscribers.

Shortwave has updated its pricing structure, offering personal, Pro, and business plans priced at $7, $24, and $24 per month, respectively, shifting focus towards business and enterprise users due to increasing demand for AI-driven email management tools.

There is a lot of demand for writing and searching emails with AI, especially with power and business users. That’s why we are moving the AI from the side panel to the main editor. We also want to help people figure out what’s important and what’s not important through AI.
